Behind the scenes

July 20, 2017

I’ve posted various images of my collection on this blog over the years, and if you head on over to the project’s Facebook page you can find photos of pretty much everything in the collection; 2,000+ items.
However, I don’t general talk about the behind-the-scenes items; the archives & the research. Well, here’s some photos of relevant shelves, piles, and boxes in my home office just to give you some idea of what has, and will go, into this multi-decade project.

Various oversize reference items along with archival items that don’t fit in standard boxes, and a few promo items in the Random House envelope.

The narrow boxed on the left contain vinyl records and laserdiscs. The binders contain decades worth of printouts from articles, to library catalog records, to interview citations and more.

The file boxes… Top left: pulps. Top right: comics & comic-sized things. Middle right: Fanzines. The other three boxes are all magazines. (Soon I’m going to need a fourth magazine box.)

The “research & reference” shelf. This is material that needs more work or I refer to on a regular basis. Left to right: Vaughn Bode material, research, research, Reflector copies, Fanzine scans & photocopies, “adult” material research, reference books, Usleess News issues, and a binder full of items I know about but am still looking for.

Last but not least: The pile of “I need to add this to the book” items.

This obviously is just a small part of the whole, but it’s a peek behind the scenes that pretty much one one’s ever seen outside of immediate friends and family.
If you’ve got a question about any of it, just leave a comment and I’ll do my best to clarify.
