Notes

From the io9.com article “Dean Koontz tells io9 about the Odd Thomas movie… and a possible Frankenstein TV show”
Original URL: http://io9.com/5916313/dean-koontz-tells-io9-about-the-odd-thomas-movie-and-a-possible-frankenstein-tv-show

‘Koontz says he always saw this series as a six- or seven-book series, and now he’s sure it’ll be seven books — and he knows how the seventh ends. “Each step of it raises the stakes and it all starts accelerating, book by book. I once said I would never write a series that this one came to me in such an amazing fashion that once I’d finished the first book I knew I was going to. And it’s only taken me several years to figure out how many volumes, but I think it’s going to be seven.” The sixth book is called Deeply Odd and the seventh is Saint Odd, “but that might not mean what people think it means.”’

There is an interesting “cross-over” between Koontz’s worlds on pages 95-96 (of the trade hardcover):

“Suddenly the black-and-red eighteen-wheeler, with its sparkly silver striping, seemed as if it might be some kind of carnival truck, which had unpleasant associations for me. I know that most carnival folks are nothing like their public image. The majority are just good people who don’t fit in anywhere else, and they have a complex, charming social structure of their own. I read this book, Twilight Eyes, all about them. But once I had a bad experience with two carnies.”

In the summer of 2013, prior to publication, the following was posted to CharnelHouse.com regarding a change in the cover design for their editions: “The cover design has changed on Deeply Odd. It went from a Hitchcock’s profile in gold to a two color hand stamp of Edie Fischer’s jeweled exclamation point brooch.” The original description was: “Using the finest materials from Japan, Italy and Africa, Charnel House combines three key elements from Dean’s brilliant story in the design of this book: The western motif of The Rhinestone Cowboy, the ancient book of the coven of Meridian, and the profile of Alfred Hitchcock.”
