Just one update but for a very good reason…

Quite a while back I blogged about the Locus Collection now housed at Duke University. More than a year later I’ve managed to acquire copies of the Koontz-related material from that collection. It’s not a lot but it does contain six unpublished letters from Dean to editor Charlie Brown dated between 1977 and 1994. One of them includes a two-page appreciation of Sheri L. Tepper. Other topics include the film versions of Demon Seed and Watchers, along with the ceasing of his use of the Leigh Nichols pseudonyms.

Again, this isn’t a lot of new material but it’s unique and I want to do it justice. As a result I’m taking my time to get it right (the cross-references are going to be a nightmare,) and in doing so awaiting an answer I’ve sent back to the librarians at Duke. It’s possible I’ll get these items posted next week but it could take longer.

In the meantime, here’s the one new item on the site this week.

Happy Birthday Dean!

It seems like I’ve got just one update for you today but it’s hiding several items behind it. Basically I noticed that Dean’s published a bunch of stuff via email and social media all under the title “From the Desk of Dean”, So I decided to call that a “column” and list the seven items I’ve got so far under it. Check it out via the link above.

In other news, for those interested in stats here’s that latest:

  • 726 guide entries
  • 1,876 individual editions
  • 2,809 images
  • and this is blog post #1,245

I’ve got a massive backlog of cover scans to add to the site and sure, there’s still real “content” missing but I’ve got to admit adding images is way easier. So this week’s update is a bucket-load of images, mostly in the appendices. Enjoy.

I’m a day early this week because my day job is re-opening to the public tomorrow. So while Monday is typically part of my “weekend” I’ll be back in the building. This also means that next week’s update might be super light but I’ll continue to do my best as I re-adjust back to my “normal” schedule.

Did you see Dean’s recent tweet and Facebook post about Gerda’s baked corn recipe?

Well did you know that this recipe has been published twice? Check out the entry for The Best Baked Corn.

First the pandemic, now civil-unrest, including here in Lincoln, NE and in the immediate vicinity of my day job in Omaha, NE. There’s a lot on my plate right now outside of this site. As a result, I’ve just got the one update this week that I entered in several days ago.

Please stay safe everyone!

Dean Koontz needs no introduction, but his newest novel does — at least, a small one. The author is set to release the thriller Elsewhere on Oct. 20; it follows a father and daughter who come into possession of a very mysterious object, which the local eccentric who passed it on to them called “the key to everything.” The key comes with a warning that it must never be used, but of course that doesn’t exactly happen.

EW is exclusively revealing the cover above, and below you can read the first excerpt, of the novel’s creepy prologue.

Not a lot of new content this week but I was able to fill a small hole in my collection with the cassette version of City of Night, so I consider that a tick in the win column.

Only one new item this week but it’s another in the “just when you think you’ve found everything” category. In this case it’s a fourth appearance of Dean’s “Godzilla Versus Megadeth” which was reprinted in an Ohio concert venue’s promotional newspaper in July 1995. Go figure.

Another week and a handful of new content. New normal still isn’t normal but I’m trying to add something every day or two. This doesn’t mean I’m not researching and filing daily. Just the number of articles mentioning The Eyes of Darkness lately are adding about 10 items a day to my files. So, without further ado, this weeks additions & updates.
