Dean Koontz discusses his book, “Strangers.” Koontz describes the characters and their exotic careers and the plot, which revolves around their stay at the same motel. He talks about his writing process and Charles Dickens’ newspaper serials. Connie Martinson goes on to read a Robert Louis Stevenson quote from the book. I just stumbled over this Red State article from January 2010 about how Avatar is a total rip-off of Dark Rivers of the Heart. Whatever that author was on, I don’t want any. Besides, everyone knows that Avatar is Pocahontas in space.
Covers that never really existed

Two days ago I received my copy of the MP3-CD audio edition of The Servants of Twilight and it wasn’t what I expected. Below, on the left, is what Amazon had been (and still is) advertising as the cover art. This was based on the 2011 premium paperback release of the novel. However, below, on the right, is what I received. The actual release’s cover art is based on the trade paperback edition, also released this week. This isn’t the first time there’s been some advertised cover art that didn’t come to pass. Can you name any of the others?

Back in the mid- to late-90s Putnam did a series of five limited editions of titles of Dean’s they were publishing. Four were spectacularly illustrated both on the dust jacket and slipcases. By the last one, The Bad Place, it’s like they hardly put in any effort at all.

The Servants of Twilight trade paperback arrives Tuesday

The trade paperback release of The Servants of Twilight comes out this Tuesday, September 3rd. As with the other trade paperback releases this one comes with “an afterword by the author.” It doesn’t say “new” so I’m assuming it’s a reprint but will wait to receive my copy before determining that.

A great article on Joe Stefko publisher of the amazing Charnel House Editions.
Charnel House began in earnest with Dean Koontz, of whom Stefko is a fan. Koontz gave Stefko a copy of the Beastchild paperback, and, with help from Ken Keller at Nemo Press, Stefko taught himself the basics of fine bookmaking. In what would become a Charnel House tradition, he incorporated aspects of theBeastchild storyline into the binding’s design; the numbered copies were bound in lizard, making for an especially tactile reading experience. “Basically I took it and came back almost a year later and handed him a copy of both editions [lettered and numbered—Charnel House produces two versions of each title]. He loved them.”
For his part, Koontz said, “Working with Joe is great fun because he’s an entertaining guy and because he’s got an exceptional talent for designing and producing exquisite limited editions. His books are always thoughtful and clever and well made—and often as downright sensuous as a book can be.”

Sunshine Coast Council libraries present Queenie Chan at two special events at Nambour Library on 20 September and at the ‘pop up’ library the Vault at the University of the Sunshine Coast on 21 September.
Queenie’s latest collaboration is with bestselling author Kylie Chan, illustrating her new book Small Shen. She has also worked with Dean Koontz on his Odd Thomas graphic novel adaption and her series The Dreaming was one of the first manga launched by Tokyo Pop that was not made in Japan.
